PETA, and Enviornmentalists, are not only
As a news source we are constantly and consistently, bombarded with e-mails and faxes from a variety of sources. Some of the more ridiculous and hilarious are from my friends, (NOT!!), at PETA, (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), and environmentalists whose minds and politics only go one way, (insane).
Sometimes I even get them from individuals and groups trying to keep me informed and up-to-date on what the fringe groups are doing and thinking.
At the first of the month I received an e-mail from a group called Special Guests. This group, from its frequent e-mails are probably conservative. This particular e-mail has to do with the United Nations’ concern that American cows, both dairy and beef, pass too much gas, (methene). They seem to believe that when a cow belches or…well…relieves itself; a daisy wilts and a polar bear drowns.
The author of this particular piece thinks that worrying about the effect of bovine gas on the ozone keeps individuals from seeing the real problem, the future price of food. Steve Shenk thinks you should buy cheap, low moisture food, at 2008 prices to eat in the future when the prices have gone up. I have no real idea what “low moisture food” is, but I assume it’s grains like rice, barley, wheat, etc. and perhaps something like the military’s MREs, Meals Ready to Eat.
Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, a UN “expert” (the parentheses indicates my disregard for his intelligence about cattle), recommends that Great Britian and the others of us cut our consumption of beef by half, and by 60 percent by 2020, (that’s in 12 years folks). He claims that this would go further to reversing global warming than interfering with transportation.
See this is my problem with these “experts” they can’t even decide among themselves what the biggest global warming boogie man is, the automobile, coal-fired plants, or gas-passing Ag animals? Which is it, who is
Dr. Death? Who’s bringing on the end of the universe? Now forgive me for labeling, but the good doctor, a vegetarian, bears an ethnic name that might indicate he has issues about cattle being a food item, so I’m not sure he doesn’t have a variety of agendas.
Besides, he and Shenk haven’t told me what’s going to happen to the millions of people put out of work when we wreck the beef and dairy industries. But of course they never have those solutions…just a solution to relieve stress on animals and save polar bears, and owls.
Now I am not a vegetarian, and have no plans of becoming one…but I eat vegetables, and guess what? Cows eat vegetables. Vegetables cause gas. Soooo if we all start eating vegetables what’s that going to do for the production of methene? Hmmmm. If this isn’t bad enough Dr. Pachauri thinks we ought to cut back on our consumption of chocolate. Who is he kidding?
Now then, as usual, the kooks over at PETA have been working overtime to look stupid. Using their usual tricks of trying to frighten people into their area of “thought?????” they are highlighting the current milk contamination disaster in China.
In an effort to wean America away from milk, and dairies, PETA sent me an e-mail recommending that American consumers stay away from animal milk…in the meantime they sent an e-mail to ice cream giant Ben and Jerry’s recommending that the company use human breast milk instead of cow’s milk, since taking milk from cows stresses them. Now I have no idea how many cattle it takes to supply Ben and Jerry’s and all the other ice cream companies with enough milk….but I can pretty much guarantee we’d rather have several million stressed cows over several million stressed women producing milk for ice cream…but that’s just me.
The word for the week and my recommendation to these folks- evanescent.
