The Boise City Rotary Club has a history of making the youth of our community a first priority item in its community service projects. From the Pee Wee Baseball program in the summer months to the Rotary Student of the Month program throughout the school year, together with the AI Like Me@ books for first graders, the dictionaries for third graders, and the alcohol and drug free Senior Graduation night party, youth are a definite priority!
One other program which is used to help support leadership development and the student administration of the Boise City High School Rotaract Club is the RYLA camp held each year at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. RYLA stands for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, and the camp is a project of Rotary District 5690. The Boise City Rotary Club annually awards scholarships to high school juniors who are recommended by their teachers and school administrators. It is called an A Award because the scholarship recipients have been identified as students with potential or recognized leadership abilities. The focus and purpose of the week long camp is to help those students develop and enhance their leadership skills. Hands on training, challenging activities, tips, techniques, principles and rules for developing teamwork and problem-solving skills make the camp a fun and educational experience. The skills the students learn have enhanced the ability of Boise City High School students to be leaders in their school, in the Interact Club and in their college and business careers. Please encourage any students you know who might be interested in this educational experience to seek more information through the Boise City High School or the Boise City Rotary Club.
