Slinging a Smooth Stone

cf  Now We Are All Along For The Ride

For the 44th time in our nation’s history, we lurch once again in our zigzag pattern of changing course. Yesterday, at noon Eastern time, President Obama, took office. I cannot stand to watch such pageantry even when the nation’s economy isn’t in a shambles and $170 million is needlessly spent to launch a new face in the most pressure-filled job in the world. So, I have to glean what I can from on-line written press reports, since I can’t bear watching televised reporters gushing over what should be objective reporting.

According to those on-line reports, Obama referred to the “Remaking of America”. Perhaps mirroring the Depression era speech of F.D.R. by saying we have to choose “… hope over fear, and unity of purpose, over conflict and discord. “Obama chose to take the oath on President Lincoln’s Inaugural Bible, for obvious reasons, even though Lincoln, though hating slavery had to be pushed into issuing the Emancipation Proclamation. Obama then said somthing along the lines that the era of putting off unpleasant decisions had ended. Excuse me? Though I often disagreed with many of the decisions made by Bush 43, the man never shied away from making unpleasant decisions. Let us pray that President Obama has to make few of the “unpleasant decisions” that President Bush had been faced with and made over the last eight years. Though the new president plans to go ahead with plans to begin a 16-month pullout in Iraq, he gave a warning to those who might have designs on making life miserable for the U.S. or others.”Your people will judge you on what you can build, not what  destroy.” Obama said.”We will extend a hand, if you unclench your fist,” he added. He then called for a political truce. This is a good call if he can rein in the militant side of Liberal politics. Even still, after Obama has said there is no purpose to charge any of the Bush administration with war crimes there are still those who want to do so. We have been riding this political seesaw since Nixon was forced out of office. Each party can hardly gleefully wait until they can “get even” for the latest political faux pas. Indeed, Republican Senator John Cornyn, of Texas admits that Hillary Clinton will be confirmed as Secretary of State, but that he will challenge the appointment. If it is a shoe-in why waste our time and his, instead of getting on with important business? We have two wars and a recession ravaging our nation Senator; this is no time for pettiness and “getting even”.Obama then called for a renewal of the American traditions of “…hard work, honesty, fair play, tolerance, loyalty and patriotism.” I hope many of his party cohorts and media cohorts listened. Then Obama seemed to turn his back on the idea of a smaller government, saying in effect not to question if your government is big or small, but…if it works. The 44th president arrived in Washington aboard a train yesterday…he left today on the front car of a roller coaster with us as passengers. It may not always be fun, but it will be an interesting four years.
