If any one of you are like me, you might have wondered “What is this Israeli-Palestinian battle really about?” Well in the past few weeks in my World History class here in Washington State,  we have been studying exactly that. I have learned it started many years ago, in the year 1220 B.C. when the Hebrews entered Canaan (now commonly known as Palestine). When the Jewish people came to the land they realized that there were other peoples living there, these people were the Philistines. From this point on the two groups fought for over two centuries.

 The Issues at Hand

 Obesity in America

Obesity in America is a growing problem in the country today, not only in adults but in children, too. But where does this problem start in any person’s life? It is believed to start with your eating habits as a child. From 2003 to 2006 statistics show that 16.3% of children and adolescents aged 2-19 years old are obese. There are many reasons why this is but the cause could be the fact of what the school serves at lunches. Students spend seven and a half hours a day at school and students are overwhelmed enough with the stress of schoolwork that they do not take the time to make healthy choices and take a lunch. But why not make it easier to make the healthy choice? By substituting the fatty foods with healthy foods students will get the nutrition that they need and the taste they desire. An eighth grader here at Stahl Jr. High, Kylee Jackson, said, “I would like to see a salad bar put in as well as a fruit bar.” This may reduce the chances of obesity and create a healthy lifestyle to live by for kids. Another eighth grader here at Stahl Jr. High (she would like to remain anonymous) would like to share an incident that happened at lunch, “I was buying my lunch and all I wanted was an apple, but in order to receive my apple I first had to buy a dessert.” This does not seem right and may be a cause for starting overweight children, teenagers, and adults in America.

As the saying goes, “There’s no place like the Oregon coast.” I will agree with that 100 percent. This past weekend I went on vacation with my family to Oregon. We spent two nights there.

Our vacation started on Thursday as we headed to the coast. Our first stop was Astoria, Or. to check in to the Bed and Breakfast my mom got for us. After that we headed for the beach. But before we went to the beach, we all decided to go to a town called Cannon Beach and go to the Ecola State Park. In this state park you can get a view of Haystack rock and you can also see a light house in the distance. The view was beautiful because you could see on and on.

Living in Washington State helps me with my adventures of the world.

One of the world’s most famous structures is right here in Seattle. The Space Needle is one of the sights I have wanted to see and my wish has been fulfilled.

A little information about the Space is that it is a major landmark for the Pacific Northwest and a symbol of Seattle. The Space Needle was created and built for the 1962 World’s Fair. During this time of the Fair, the Space Needle had 2.3 million visitors. The Space Needle is 605 feet high and 138 feet wide and it weights 9,550 tons.

In my opinion, the view is amazing. One of the most breathtaking I have ever seen. But, it can be a little overwhelming ,with the magnitude of all the things you can see from the top.

From Black Mesa to Mt. Capulin to the great people of Boise City, this trip has been quite an experience. I have so many memories here I will really miss Boise City.

I think I am so lucky that I got a chance to learn how to run a newspaper. I loved the whole experience. I love the rush of the nerves I get just before an interview. Also all the people rushing to finish the paper on time. I like how in the end the paper comes out just the way everyone likes it even if we do have a little bit of delays.

I would like to thank all the people that helped me out this whole time. Thanks Angela and Cindy for letting me stay with you guys this whole time and being really cool people. Thanks Kaley and Brooke for being really cool friends. And thank you everybody who has read my articles and have supported me this whole time.

Most of all, Thank you C.F. and Grandma Linda for the internship. I promise to keep writing throughout the whole year I am away. I cannot wait for next summer when I come Back! See you then.

Spring Break spent in Washington D.C.

I have always wanted to travel around the world. So I thought, why not start at our nation’s capital? This trip was with 26 kids from my school and five chaperons. We left on March 29, 2008 and we would stay in Washington, D.C. until April 4. The first day we went to Williamsburg, Va. and had a tour of the town. My favorite place in Williamsburg is the Governor’s Mansion. Williamsburg was Virginia’s second capital after Jamestown burned.
