The Cimarron Senior Center in Boise City has obtained a new van. Ruth Atkins, Transportation Director for the Center submitted an application for the van in October, 2006. Bob White, a volunteer driver for the Center picked the van up in Oklahoma City on June 2, 2008. The 2008 Chevy Uplander four-passenger van with wheelchair accessibility was received through Aging Services Division of D.H.S. Don Lawrence, driver for Panhandle Nutrition and Cimarron Transportation, uses the van daily to bring elderly to the Center for lunch and social activity. He also delivers meals to shut-ins who are unable to come to the Center. Persons wishing to come to the Center for lunch, whether ambulatory or in a wheelchair, and have no means of transportation should contact Panhandle Nutrition at 544-2215.
The bulk of the $8,000. needed by the Center for matching funds was received from Perkins-Prothro Foundation; Boise City Family Pharmacy; Tri-County Electric; and Dot and Gene Sizemore. Other generous donors were: Lottie Williams, Jesse and Gayla James, Wendell and Opal Burton, Helen Parker, Pearl Morrison, John and Ruth Atkins; George and Rosie Nail, Eldean Pruitt, Jeff Wells Memorial, Don and Mary Osborn; Hazel Reed; Don and Joan Wells; Lucile Hart; Doc and Helen Etling; Don Lawrence, Helen Moore, LaMoine James, P.T.S.I. and P.T.C.I.
The outstanding generousity of the people in Cimarron County provides many needed social services for their citizens. Many of the donors are members of the Senior Center who realize that through their efforts, and the generous donations of others keep the doors of this excellent facility open. Transportation is only one of the vital and appreciated services of the Center.
