Above and below, the river bottom east of the bridge, where in 15 or 20 cattle had grazed peacefully, hours before is covered by swift running water. A fine, foggy mist hangs over the rushing river. Since Governor Henry was in Cimarron county on July 16, parts of the county have recorded 6.85 inches of rain.
Above, in a few short minutes the water is about one-half mile east of the bridge, heading for Highway 287 and perhaps Optima Dam near Guymon.
Below, the families who drove to the bridge to witness what could be a once in a lifetime sight, walk back to their cars, soaked in rain and mist.
